N503: Policy Advocacy and Healthcare Ethics
This course will examine three themes: policy and advocacy, organizational ethics, and finance. In the health care policy component, students will examine public, governmental, and third party systems that impact the delivery of health care services in the United States. Emphasis will be placed on policy initiatives and concepts impacting nursing practice, patient outcomes, and organizational systems in addition to the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies. In the organizational ethics section, students will examine ethical standards and principles related to the provision of healthcare services, patient safety, and quality of care. In the financing component, students will explore the relationships between cost-effective care, quality of care, and delivery of healthcare services. Emphasis will be placed on health care reform laws, managing human, fiscal, and physical health care resources, and examining current policy trends and issues.
